Storm Warning

Last night I watched Storm Warning.  It was a whole lot better thanI thought it would be.  I've never been a big fan of Ronald Reagan's acting ability, but I think this has been the best role he has had.  Ginger Rogers was beautiful in this film.  Not, as pretty as she was in The Major and the Minor, but still very beautiful.  The ending was a bit dissappointing, though.  I mean the very last scene was Ginger holding her dead sister, Doris Day in her arms.  Very sad ending!  I wish she could have pulled through.  I guess it was showing what would happen if you do not try to rid yourself of evil.  It was one of those type movies, where you are constantly thinking, "What would I do in this situation?"

That is definately my least favorite scene. 

That's a very interesting scene.  Good acting, but scary.  I do like how she finally stands up to him in that scene.  It REALLY shows his extremely bad character.

  Probably my favorite part of the whole movie.  She recognizes her brother-in-law as one of them.

Overall, I do reccommend this film.  The plot is exciting, and keeps you were wondering, "What is going to happen next?  What will she do?  What would I do in this situation?"

On a different note, I finally bought Primrose Path!

 I am very excited about watching it.  She looks so cute in this one.  I'm sure it's going to be good.  The National Board of Review gave her best acting for this film.  I watched a scene of it off of the Warner Archives website.    I wish it would get here sooner, now! *sigh*

The first Ginger movie I saw was We're Not Married.  The first Astaire/Rogers musical I saw was Follow the Fleet.

Ginger Polls--Part Two

Hello!  It's been a while since I last posted, hasn't it? 
Anyway, I got part two of the polls going.  I think that's all of her films, if I missed one please tell me!  If you see that I skipped a few years, though, that's because she only made one movie in that particular year. 
Like in 1941, she only made Tom, Dick and Harry, so it automatically wins for that year. 

You probably don't want to hear about my personal life, but this episode I'm about to relate is kind of about Ginger (really more her dress!). 

Well, I'm in this play, and so I had to go shopping for an evening gown, since I have to wear one in the play I am in.    I found two beautiful dresses (for a resonable amout of cash =D) and one sort of looks like the one Ginger wore when she received her Oscar.

When I saw it I became a bit excited.  It's not exactly like it, but it does favor some.  Around the neck it has the same veil type thing, but with kind of long black lines that go down to the end of the veil thing, which is about the same length as her Oscar dress.  Unfortunately, the only size they had it in was an eight. :(  My mother is a pretty good seamstress, though, and she might be able to take it down seven sizes with a little needle work.  I'm hopeful she can!  Speaking of Oscars, does anybody know who votes for you to receive the Oscar?  I know it's the Academy Awards establishment, but who is in that group of people?  I was reading a book I checked out at the library titled, "Academy Awards" and it said Bette Davis was once president.  So...did she vote?  If she was president, does that mean she could nominate herself whenever she wanted to?  I'm probably missing something easy, but I just don't quite uderstand how it all works.

When I was looking up Ginger's "Oscar Dress" I came across these two (very blurry) photos of Ginger presenting the Oscar to Joan.

On my paper about Ginger...I began that today.    I hope this one comes easy compared to all the other IEW papers.  I love writing, and I guess that's why I'm in that class, but hopefully this paper should be FUN!  The IEW format is very strict and mandatory on style and technique and ESPECIALLY format.  I'm not talking about, "You have to have this many paragraphs, and it has to be in Times New Roman."  I mean labeling EVERY sentence as a [1], [2], [3], etc., which is to long to explain what those numbers mean, adding dressups,  etc.    So, since I love to talk about Ginger, I hope I can keep it in the model format, which in my opinion is the hardest part about IEW. Writing this blog is kind of nice to "relax" my writing.  It's nice to just write whatever you think up (even if it is not correct grammar!).
I was thinking maybe I could start my introduction with the steps to the Charleston, and then say these simple steps headed fourteen year old Ginger Rogers to fame... Would that pull you into a paper? 
Ok...I am going to stop making you read all of my blah about writing.  Sorry!  I'm still geting used to the whole blogging thing, and I will try to post something more interesting next time.

Anyway, over at Gingerology Huey announced that some Ginger movies were coming out on DVD!  I'm so excited!  I've never seen Primrose Path because I kept missing it on TCM.  I'm debating whether or not I should buy it.  Have any of you seen it?  Is it worth buying?  I'm leaning toward a yes on purchasing, now.

It's My Birthday!

It's my birthday today! It's been pretty good.  I did have to go to school and take a physics test, but I'm not complaining.  At least I got an A on it!  I missed one question that I absolutely should have gotten right.  In a definition I had to write, I forgot a tiny, two letter preposition.  Who knew if you leave out the word "in" it's minus one point???  ;-)  Do you not hate it when you could have gotten a perfect score, and you make a stupid mistake like that, and you get minus one?

Some of my friends came over to my house to celebrate the super bowl yesterday.  Go Packers!  Lol.  Sorry for all you Steelers fans.  It was kind of like a birthday celebration, too.  I was showing one of my friends my Ginger Rogers' LIFE magazine from 1942, while the fellas were watching the game, and she liked it pretty well.  She's a big Audrey Hepburn fan.  I read her part of ithe magazine, and she was like, "Hmmm, she sounds pretty nice.  Almost as nice as Audrey Hepburn!"  I don't think she's converting over to a Ginger fan anytime soon, but it's nice to have your BFF into Classic Hollywood too.

 I know that's a wedding cake, but it's still cake and it's cute! 

I might watch the Major and the Minor, or Swing Time, or Storm Warning tonight.  The Major and the Minor and Swing Time are my favorites.  I just got Storm Warning in from Netflix, so I might choose that one because I haven't seen it before.    It sounds kind of depressing, though...that's why I might go with a comedy or musical. I don't really want to be sad today. But seriously, who wants to see Doris Day die?  I haven't seen a film with Ronald Reagn in it before, either.  It was his birthday yesterday...big 100!

"Analyzing Ginger's Signature and Start of Poll"

Lately, I've been reading a lot about graphology.  After I finished analyzing my own and my family's handwriting, I decided to check out GR's signature.

In this photo, as you can see, her signature is very large. especially the R that starts Rogers.  If a loop is very large, that means the person feels in need of something, that they used to have.  As you can see she crosses her Ts high, and the handwriting is very curly.  If you cross your Ts high, that means you have a temper.  She also has her's T's very long and pointing upward a little bit.  That means a very high work ethic.   The curls and loops mean that the person is humorous.  In this particular sample her writing slants to the left, which means, "tends not to show emotions".  In others, though, her writing slants far to the right. 

In this photo, you can see the loops are not nearly as large.  I'm assuming she was married to her beloved Lew Ayres at this time.  When she and Lew Ayres divorced, her handwriting began to have larger loops in it, meaning bigger holes. I wish they would have stayed together!!! In all of her signatures, though, there is one thing that remains the same, the very long strokes going downward, and the very high upper letters.  The long strokes mean you are very passionate about whatever you do, and the high writing means you are mature.  Also, in this photo her writing goes up, which according to graphology is the very best trait a person can have.  That means a very happy, friendly person, who is easy to get along with.

  That is from Grauman's Chinese Theater.  I thought I would add that one in, because when you are signing autographs like in the photos above, I'm sure you're no taking your time, like you would at that particular occasion.  As you can see, this writing is much neater and not as rushed.

I think that dress is pretty neat, with all the stars.  I wonder what color it was...maybe blue to accent her tan she has in the photo.

Ok...well as far as the poll goes for "the most beloved Ginger film ever", it has begun.  I'm not going to go in order, just because I thought maybe it might be more fun to start out with her more popular films.  I landed my finger on a random year, and we will begin with the fabulous year of 1935.  According to Wikepedia, the films that year were...Roberta

We Have a Winner(S)!

Well, as far as the poll goes...Fred Astaire and Jimmy Stewart tied.  Those are the two I was pulling for...I can't remember who I voted for last.  First it was Jimmy then Fred then Jimmy then ?.  I don't remember who I voted for last.  Cary came in second with one vote. Thought I had two Cary voters.  Lol. Did one of you switch over like me?  George Stevens and Howard Hughes had zero.  HH was just a BIG loser.  I don't really know that much about George Stevens, except that Ginger liked him. 
    It is Ginger's centennial this year.  I know Huey over at Gingerology has got his whole year planned out with Gingery goodness.  I haven't decided what I should do.  It may just be a day for wearing pink, eating Ice Cream sodas, and watching GR's favorite films she did, Kitty Foyle, The Major and the Minor, and Swing Time.  I WISH I could go to see her home in July, but I'll have to find some spare cash under my couch.  My whole family and I went up to Alaska for a mission trip last year, and we might go again as our trip.  I watched Kitty Foyle and Singin' in the Rain for the first time on the extremely long plane trip.  It was all worth it to be with the kids up there and teach them about Jesus, though.  

I looked up Ginger playing ping pong since I might be getting a ping pong table for my birthday, which is coming up pretty soon!  I found two pics.  In one she appears to be playing with Santa Clause...I wonder who won???

I bet she was a toughie to beat!  Here is an add I found of Lela Rogers with flowers.

I thought that was pretty neat.  Sigh...to get flowers from Ginger! 
I might celebrate her centennial with a continuing poll.  How about which is your favorite Ginger movie from 1930, 1931, 1932, etc.  Then we could all vote on all of the winners and have one big winner, which would be THE most beloved Ginger film.  I'll have to start my research. :D  Ok, I know that wasn't much of a post, but it will have to do!

"New Ginger Poll"

Well, hello everyone!  I know it's been  a while since my last post, but I've been busy, busy, busy!  The dress poll had a winner..."Stunning White Suit!"  I must say that is the one I voted for, but they all are fabulous!  Ok, as you'all know it's Ginger's centennial this year, and it's going to be a blast.    I'm looking forward to some very Gingery posts and maybe a Ginger day at TCM on July 16.  Since it is a new year, I thought maybe we could kick it off with a poll.  Out of all Miss GR lovers (that didn't end up being married to her) who would be best suited for her?

       GOOD: Very rich gent.  Ginger thought he was as very nice dancer too.  BAD:  Ginger found him cheating on her.  Don't know if they could have worked it out or not.  That's up to you to ponder...  Also he was a little demanding.

                               My, my, would it not have been cool if Fred and Ginger had been married?!?!

      They could have danced their way to happiness.  GOOD:  Sweet and kind.  He and Ginger dated briefly before she moved off to Hollywood.  It would have been really neat if the greastest dance team ever were married.  It would be like the Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz.  Hopefully it would not have ended up the same way...I'm sure it wouldn't.  BAD: BIG perfectionist.  I think that sometimes aggravated her, although she was one herself.  Just not quite as large a one as he was.
                                                                          

        George Stevens.  I couldn't find a pic of them together so I just used one of him on his own.  GOOD:  Ginger almost described him as the love of her life.  BAD:  Could have been hard to work with a director that was your husband.  Might have been demanding.

                                                                          I'm not really sure what happened between them.  They won their only Oscar together in 1940.  That's a pic of them with Bob Hope at the ceremony.  GOOD:  He was, well, just a good guy.  It would have been neat to see them act together in a few more movies.  BAD:  If they were married, she would probably end up doing a lot of movies with him, thus starting another partnership.  We all know GR loved to be out on her own.

      Ginger dated Cary Grant before she went to Paris and met Jacques Bergerac.  GOOD:  Ginger love to be around him, and they both had the same funny personality.  Bad:  Was known to spank his wives if they "disobeyed" him.  We know Ginger would NOT have stood for that.

"In Person" and "Christmas Kitty"

I watched "In Person" on YouTube under "GR (1935)" this afternoon because I've got the flu.  :(     Not fun to be sick on Christmas!!!  I still had a pretty good Christmas overall, though.  Thankfully, I didn't feel that bad compared to the other days.  But, I did get some "Gingery" items for Christmas like the Life magazine that has her fishing on her ranch and the complete Fred and Ginger box set.  :D  I was quite happy.  I hope you'all had a great Christmas as well.  Mine is not quite over yet, though.  I get to go over to my grandparents house on New Years Eve.  I know my cuz and I are planning to stay up all night and maybe sneak in a few Ginger movies if the boys don't mind (or if they do) :).  I think I might be pulling my cuz into the "Ginger Addiction" thing as well.  ;)   There is also this little "Christmas Kitty", who has been on my front porch since Christmas Eve Eve.  My little bro and I named him Ulysses.  He's quite cute and very friendly, but he's had to stay outside on my porch becasuse I don't want my indoor cats, Archie and Henrietta to fight with him, (I honestly don't think they would, but I'm not taking any chances.)  Well, we all know how much Ginger loved cats so I thought I would post one of my favorite "Ginger with Kitty" photos in honor of this new friend at my door.  

         

I just love that photo.:)  It's been a favorite since I first became a fan of GR.  Maybe I could do a "Ginger Pet Pics" post sometime.  I see none of you know the answer to the dress color question. I suppose I will have to do a little research to find out.  Well, that's all for this post.
